Writer's Guidelines
Readership
The core readership of CATECHIST
consists of catechists in parish
religious education programs and
religion teachers in Catholic schools.
We include articles of interest to
teachers of children of preschool age
through high school, youth ministers,
parish and religious education directors
and/or coordinators. Readers range from
volunteer catechists with minimal
training and experience to well-read,
experienced professional teachers.
Types of
Articles
Formation:
A formation article provides
background material pertinent to any
catechist, religion teacher, or director
of religious education. Areas that
CATECHIST commonly explores are
Scripture, the sacraments, liturgy,
prayer, ecumenism, and doctrinal
development; morality, social concerns,
and service projects; and teaching
methodology, planning, and multicultural
trends. Formation articles address the
general concerns in catechesis, the
Church, catechist formation, or the
lives of students and their families.
Age-specific:
Age-specific articles are tightly
focused to a specific age group:
preschool (ages 3-5); primary grades
(grades 1-3); intermediate grades
(grades 4-6); junior high (grades 7-9);
high school (grades 10-12), and adults.
Our greatest need and concentration is
on material for catechists of children
in preschool through sixth grade. We
also consider articles for special-needs
students.
How-to:
A how-to article addresses a specific
project or topic. This is our most
popular type of material. This article
presents ideas with lesson-plan
suggestions, complete with activities,
projects, and prayers. This kind of
article is practical and concrete.
